collection activities for Birmingham-Tuscaloosa area credit union.

DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Collections Officer
FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt
DEPARTMENT: Collections/Lending
REPORT TO: President, Delinquent Loan Committee
SUMMARY: Responsible for coordinating the credit unions collection
efforts involving delinquent loans, negative balance accounts, and
bankruptcy/debtors court cases. Ensure that collections policies and
procedures are compliant with state and federal laws, and that they are
adhered to. Work in cooperation with the VP Lending, VP Member Services,
and Branch Officers to minimize collection account liabilities and
losses.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The collection of all loans, negative balance accounts, return items.
Establish and maintain effective collection procedures on delinquent
loan accounts and establish and maintain effective recovery procedures
on accounts that have been charged off.
Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive and detailed operating
procedures to maximize efficiency and quality of work and
cross-training.
Review all accounts on an ongoing basis for collection, adjustment, and
charge off purposes. Coordinate proper action with VP Lending, VP Member
Services, Branch Officers, President, and Delinquent Loan Committee.
Review accounts where action beyond routine collection procedures is
necessary and recommend appropriate procedures to President and/or
Delinquent Loan Committee for approval.
Authorize legal proceedings, where appropriate, in cooperation with
President and Delinquent Loan Committee. Review all billings from
attorneys retained for collection work.
Coordinate collateral protection insurance and credit insurance
programs.
Continually seek knowledge and training of effective collection and
recovery procedures, and develop thorough understanding of state and
federal regulations related to bankruptcy, repossessions, and
foreclosure.
Perform other duties as assigned.
